In 2007 Barnstable listed 999 employees, not counting school or fire district employees, and 268 of them earned the town's Median Household Income, or better, by themselves...the list

I remember a day when municipal employees worked for a little less because they got

• full health insurance,
• 80% of their highest salary as a retirement benefit,
• 15 paid holidays,
• death days,
• 15 sick days,
• a month's vacation after a period of time on the job,
• no-pressure jobs,
• and more perks than offered in the private sector.

Things have changed, and how.

Municipal employees, not only get these same benefits, but many of them earn from

TWO to FIVE TIMES MORE than the poor slobs in real world.

As they say in Rio de Jainero, "Nice-a-country this-a Barnstable".

Janet Joakim and Janice Barton like to talk about how municipal employees are in need of affordable housing.

There's 500 municipal employees, not counting school and fire district employees, who CAN'T QUALIFY for affordable housing without counting anyone else in the family's salary.

Another 250 municipal employees earn more than the Median Household Income if you count their spouses salaries.

Kindly note that our Town Manager arranged it so that we paid more than $350,000 for two police chiefs, one here, and one to keep an eye on a golf course in Florida (Finneran and McDonald).








Whoever made up the payroll list forgot to mention that Lindsey Councel (Growth Management, Environmental Scientist, nee Chief Golf Ball Washer)
earned more than $8,900 last year.

Since he earned $89,000 last year, I had to assume he's earned that much in 2007.








Many of the police had overtime watching construction workers and directing traffic, but surprisingly it's not that much.

I see the legislature and the governor will sign a bill that will enable cities and towns to use entry-level flagmen for eight times less than they pay for policemen.

Do you think Janet Joakim will adopt the new law for use in Barnstable?  I don't.

Taryn Thoman was assaulted by John Joakim in Shaw's on West Main Street.

The attack was recorded on the store's video.

The video was turned over to the Barnstable police.

Joakim admitted to being in the market, but claimed Thoman attacked him.

Thoman was pushing her six-year-old son around in a shopping cart full of groceries.

Joakim did not have a shopping cart, a shopping basket, nor one item to be purchased.

Thoman chased the punk out of the store.

One of the $350,000 a year police chiefs told Thoman to file a complaint in district court.

When Thoman went to Barnstable District Court one of the employees in the Criminal Complaint Department told her she needed Joakim's Social Security number, or his date of birth, before a complaint could be filed.

Thoman went back to the Barnstable Police for that information, but the police refused to hand it over.

Joakim won't face charges because Thoman can't get the personal information.

If you are a criminal, and want to attack someone in the neighborhood, you're home free, unless you happen to mention your date of birth or social security number.

Tomorrow I'll post the school salaries, including Pat Butler's brother, who has got to be one of the only lawyers working as an attorney for any of the school districts in the state.

Next week I'll post the fire district salaries.

Gary, thanks. This is precisely WHY this entire state is in the turmoil that we are in. The real problem is that the average working Joe's and Jean's of the real world have to live within THEIR means but the KLIMM administration only need to run to the taxpayers each time they want money.

The town has SIX highly paid Attorney's, including, as you say, local Atty Pat Butler's brother who is supposedly some 'childhood pal' of John Klimm. Gee, I WONDER HOW his hiring happened. As Gary has said here, Mr. Butler must be the ONE and ONLY Attorney who works FULL TIME for ANY school dep't in the state. Why? Simple. Because John Klimm WASTES OUR MONEY any way he wishes and there is not a damn thing anyone can do about it!

So really, WHY DOES Mr. Butler have a nice HANDSOME paying job as a FULL TIME Attorney for the school dep't? Is it because there is REALLY a need for one, or is it because John Klimm simply desired to have ANOTHER of his many PALS make a nice handsome SALARY at the expense of Barnstable taxpayers? Simply because, HE CAN..........

Yes, the WASTE in this town is putrid. So is the corruption. And the MISMANAGEMENT! These idiots in the Klimm admnistration do WHAT they want, WHEN they want, HOW they want and WHO CARES how much this will cost the Barnstable taxpayers?

Go look at your TAX ASSESSMENTS on your homes! Want to get SICK? Look and see how OVERASSESSED your home is. MOST in this town are, many between 20 and as much as 40% way OVERassessed. And NOT one thing is being done by Manager Klimm, the clowns on this WORST town council EVER, nor the Town Assessor, who WORKS FOR Mr. Klimm.

Yes, Gary is right on........ The WASTE in this town is sickening, all over. And people WONDER why so many people have LEFT Barnstable and are continuing........

If the TOWN is paying the 50% as you say, we believe you, but remember ONE thing: The TOWN is ME, and the other TAXPAYERS here who are PAYING this. NOT THE TOWN. WE ARE the town. Many of the "wage" figures that you use include overtime, so just because someone made more than you consider fair does'nt mean that person did'nt earn it working all hours of the day and night away from his/her family because they need to keep the heat on, put gas in the car and oh yea ...maybe put food on the table too...if thats ok with you?

A small fraction of the people earned some of their money by working overtime, but I don't have enough space for another column.
