Barnstable's government from Hell...Homeowner's next obstacle; surviving the winter while the council spends millions removing land from the tax rolls...
Local governments in other state communities take pride in the delivery of services.
By providing all-day kindergarten, school busing, sports programs, extra curricula activities, music, curbside collection of trash and recyclables, and essential services from the tax base, homeowners end up with more money to pay upward spiraling costs of heating oil, gasoline, and groceries.
In Barnstable the town council's policy is to force homeowners to pay exorbitant pay extra for municipal services to finance excessive lavish spending.
Let’s look at a few examples of the council's extravagant acquisitions;
$14 million to the Danforth family for the 80-acre grass airfield that the Council purports to be “recreational land” via an expensive marble headstone surrounded by dozens of “Do Not Trespass” signs. and locked gates.
The problem is taxpayers from all villages in town bought the property for $30 million in the mid-eighties for public housing.
Once the super affluent denizens of Poshterville got wind of a potential affordable housing project, the brine-filled ground water under the Darby property was transformed into a sea of Evian Water faster than Christ turned water into to wine.
Two and a half years later, nary has a drop of salt water from the Darby property has been introduced into COMM’s water supply.
In 2001 the council bought the one-acre Cumberland Farms gas station on Main Street, Hyannis for $750,000 even though the wealthy owners, the Hasiotis family (Cumberland Farms and Gulf Gasoline stations) paid $450,000 a few months earlier only to learn that gasoline from the station’s in-ground gas tanks leaked gasoline into the soil on the property.
In other communities a Brownfield site designated for clean-up isn’t worth two cents, but it's a gold mine in Barnstable if the owner has friends on the council.
Three years ago the council gave Joe Keller and Fordie Pitts $11 million to buy the $5 million Iyannough Golf Course on Route 132.
The country club was in such bad shape it's membership had dwindled below 80.
If millions in handouts to the super-wealthy isn't bad enough, John Klimm and the council are working feverishly to scrape together $9 million to buy Stu Bornstein’s 7-acre Freezer Point property on Cape Cod Bay in Barnstable Village.
Janet Joakim did appoint her brother, Steve Swain, to the Waterways Committee.
The council's spending frenzy was, and continues to be, financed by homeowners who are busy trying to figure out what they have to do to buy heating oil this winter.
Barnstable voters, who heat their homes with natural gas or oil, will pay 30 percent more this year than last.
The price of heating oil this summer is in the $4.70 per gallon range, which means homeowners must shell out $850 to fill a 175-gallon tank.
It looks like a $4,000 home heating oil tab will be the price of surviving the winter.
From this corner it looks like lots of folks will be choosing which to cut back on; medicine, groceries, or heating oil.
$4.70 a gallon heating oil in the summer translates to $5.00+ a gallon in the winter.
Last year heating oil sold for $2.59 a gallon, or a buck a gallon more than the stuff sold for in 2006 ($1.49)
All things being equal if you want to guesstimate your winter oil costs, get out last year’s heating oil bills and double them.
Both the feds and the state chipped in to help low income families buy heating oil.
Call Senator O'Leary for information on how to get in on the good thing.
To be eligible for heating oil assistance a household's income can't be more than 200 percent of federal poverty guidelines (a family of four can earn up to $41,300).
I know it’s hard to think about heating your home while the air conditioner is running, but homeowners must take the time to develop heating budgets now.
It's only four weeks till the Patriots play for real, and not that much longer to winter.
It’s also time to think about making significant changes in local government starting with the recall of slippery Janet Joakim.
Joakim and the council pissed away hundreds of thousand dollars of your money on junkets to Disneyland in Anaheim, CA, and Disney world in Orlando, Florida to buy an All American City Award to divert your attention away from the miserable job they've done.
The town council forced the school committee to charge fees to ride the school bus, play sports, take part in extra-curricula activities, all-day kindergarten, and music, by underfunding the school budget at a time the town had $24 million in cash reserves.
Falmouth's tax rate is virtually a dollar less than Barnstable’s residential rate yet the Board of Selectmen provide municipal curbside collection of trash and recyclables, fire protection, as well as town-paid school busing, all-day kindergarten, music, sports, and extra curricula activities from the tax base.
We pay extra for all those services in Barnstable.
We’ll be out collecting signatures to recall Janet Joakim tomorrow.
Hopefully Hutchenrider, Weil, and Joakim used up their bag of tricks to thwart the recall.
The recent recall failure is just a bump in the road.
The only damage is a needless 10-day delay in the recall election that'll cost the town $10,000 for the price of a special election.
Look for a September end of the month, or early October, recall election.
In my salad days as a business owner, clients called me Lo Pest, because I refused to take "no" for an answer.
Weil, Joakim, and Hutchenrider's actions yesterday validated our corruption claims against Joakim, which will make the task of collecting recall signatures that much easier.
We expect 1,000 signatures on Joakim's recall petition next week.
There will be over 1000 signatures. Book it.

You should try to get at least five hundred, as you really have to make sure the 20% shows up for the special election.

Gary, you are right ON on all this putrid WASTE! The Town Manager MUST go. When PRIVATE CORPORATIONS desire change, who goes? the guy or woman ON TOP! When professional sports franchises need change, WHO GOES? When change is BADLY NEEDED to turn things around, WHO GOES? The person at the top.....
JOHN KLIMM is problem # 1 and so is Janet Joakim. She needs to be removed and so does the Town Manager. Unfortunatly the ONLY way the Manager can be removed under the present charter is by being REMOVED by the COUNCIL, and HELL would freeze over before they figure out that John Klimm is a clueless incompetent 'manager', LIKE THAT OR NOT! If there was a provision for the VOTERS to REMOVE John Klimm OR RUTH WEIL, trust me, BOTH would be gone! So for now, we will do what is within the POWER of the VOTERS, which is to REMOVE Janet Joakim thru the RECALL!
Town Attorney Ruth Weil thinks she is cute...... Ruth will pay the price down the line when the VOTERS have their say.
As for the putrid WASTE, the BIGGEST WASTE of taxpayer money in this town is right there in our very own TOWN ATTORNEY's Office. This town employs SIX FULL TIME LAWYERS to my knowledge. TWO in the useless "Growth management Dep't, THREE MORE in the Town Attorney's Office and another FULL TIME ATTORNEY who works for the SCHOOL DEP'T! So there, SIX. And HOW MUCH actual litigation do these six clowns do? Try NONE, or at least not very much.....
The LAST TIME I knew, this town has OVER ONE THOUSAND and FIVE HUNDRED PENDING CASES against it..... I said ONE THOUSAND and FIVE HUNDRED! Of those, I believe about 500 are with the DPW (highway dep't)... SO do I have it CORRECT that about ONE THOUSAND PENDING CASES against OUR TOWN deal with WHAT?!
Now for the sickening WASTE part and truth on all this: MOST of the LEGAL WORK done FOR the town is done by OUTSIDE LAW FIRMS paid for with TAXPAYER MONEY! LAST JULY I placed in a FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST to Town Attorney Bob Smith, Manager John klimm and Town Finance Director Mark Milne. They JERKED me around for WEEKS and to this day they NEVER gave me the information on HOW MUCH taxpayer money has BEEN WASTED to outside law firms...... I spent over two months conversing with an Attorney from the Secretary of State Bil Galvin's office on how to go about getting this information. Here it is a year later and here we go again.
This afternoon I will be going AGAIN, to place another freedom of information request in to town officials to get this information.
ANY BETS on this one?
I will tell you that WHEN I DO get this putrid waste, MANY TAXPAYERS here will be REALLY pissed off at the waste. And WHEN the town goes to an ELECTED MAYOR, the first priority will be to either GET RID of the Town Attorney's OFFICE COMPLETELY and keep farming out the 'legal work'
OR have the SIX FULL TIME Attorney's get off their lazy asses and DO THE LITIGATION that hundreds of thousands of dollars is being WASTED ON!
Here we go again.

Assume the town government can dream up at least a few more b.s. reasons why any affadavit is flawed. Each time they do, plant another 30 pro-recall signs. Start ramping up a Town Clerk recall. Assume the next council meeting will feature a parade of stooges pumping up Joakim. Bring a bus load of angry petition signers to rebut them. Joakim should have mounted a positive, participatory campaign to counter this drive, not this mean-spirited, reactive exercise in penny-ante crap. It will have a short shelf life while it makes all its participants look small.

When are you moving, Mary?

The "windbag" got 286 certified signatures to recall Joakim, who only got 276 votes in her last election.
The "windbag" had only three percent of her signatures scratched.
I'll take that windbag on my team anytime!!!

Tomorrow at 4pm the appointments committee meets to interview the last ZBA candidates and then select the slate to go before the council 8\21. They are on course to have a new ZBA as of the council meeting on 9\4.

Signatures will be certified and Joakim will be recalled before the 21st. Bank on it!

So Janet, ah I mean ABLE KANE, where are you? Car 54, where are YOU? Janet? Where are you?
Janet, I asked yesterday..... YOU recently APPOINTED one of your relatives, Nick Atsalis to the ZONING BOARD, did you not? Janet, did you FULLY disclose to EVERYONE that Mr. Atsalis is related to you?
And then again recently Janet, did you also appoint your very own BROTHER to the Waterways Committee in Barnstable? Janet? Hello? Anyone home? Janet, we can't heeeeeear you. Janet, did you FULLY DISCLOSE to everyone that you APPOINTED your own brother to the waterways Committee?
Yes folks yes, this IS Barnstable..... Oops, I mean HACKSTABLE. And John Klimm thinks this is OKAY, and the town COUNCIL also seems to condone and endorse this kind of abuse of power.......
Janet, do us all a favor: SAVE the town $$$$$ on the recall election and RESIGN! Janet has accused HOW MANY times in the past of 'costing' the town $$$$! WHAT? Janet, if ANYONE has cost this town $$$$$ it is YOU and the clueless Town Manager! He should resign too!

Today I paid a visit to Town Finance Director Mark Milne and placed my new FREEDOM of Information request in to him. I asked Mark for some simple basic information;;;;;
All I want to know is the TOTAL DOLLAR AMOUNT paid by Barnstable taxpayer money paid (WASTED) to outside law firms for the past two fiscal years to the present day...... I also let Mark know that I am only asking for the dollar AMOUNT and nothing else!
As many who read here know, LAST JULY (2007) I asked for this same information from Mark Milne, Town Manager John Klimm and the late Town Attorney Bob Smith and they stonewalled me..... You see, NO ONE from town hall or the Klimm administration NOR the town Attorney's Office wants this information to be KNOWN, by ANYONE! So they stonewalled me in my request...........
NOW I get to deal with the new bigSHOT Ruth Weil. So I sent Ruth an email an hour ago, which I will have Gary post here tomorrow....In my email to Ruth, I told her not to try the games that Bob Smith played last year. They won't work this time. you see Bob tried to use the old Attorney/Client priviledge crap. Sorry Ruth but the ONLY NUMBER I WANT is how MUCH taxpayer WASTE has gone into the black hole in paying the gross excessive WASTE to outside law firms while many Barnstable HOMEOWNERS have lost or will lose their homes and still thousands more are having trouble making ends meet. It is putrid!
So go ahead Ruth, just TRY your games with me! Try your garbage nonsense. I am sure Ruth, Klimm and Milne will try to stonewall me but this time WE, not me, but WE, the Barnstable TAXPAYERS have our own Attorney from the Secretary of State's Office advising ME on how to proceed....
So to Ruth Weil, go ahead Ruth, just go ahead. Your little games AGAINST the VOTERS in precinct six might have worked at least for the short moment but this time any games you want to play will be monitored very closely by the Secretary of State's Office.....
And LAST, I am not sure if this is true or not but rumor has it that Secretary of State Bill Galvin himself just bought a home right in Hyannis. If this IS true, maybe we can get him to HELP us clean up some things in Barnstable... like the Hyannis WATER situation! And like maybe this EXCESSIVE WASTE of SIX useless FULL TIME ATTORNEY'S!
So Ruth, like I said, go ahead... play all the games you want. Sooner or later Ruth Weil will be where Janet Joakim is going.... like OUT the DOOR!
Good day!

Ann Canedey..... the infamous councilor from the elite Barnstable Village....
People should be sure to get tuned in to Ann's newest venture of trying to steal the land at Freezer Point from local businessman Stu Bornstein. Nice try Ann but somehow I don't think you will be all that successful stealing anything from Stu. Like it or not, Stu IS a good businessman and IF you and the rest of the BOZO's on the town council AND JOHN KLIMM hadn't dragged him thru the MUD for the past ten years on HIS LAND, then maybe the town might have had a slight chance of buying the land for a reasonable price... BUT, as usual, John Klimm and the town clowns chose to MUSCLE and MANHANDLE Stu for TEN years and you all managed to drag him thru the mud....
AND NOW Ann, you and the moron MANAGER really think you can snap your fingers and grab this land? HUH? Talk about amateur MORONS! You are without question.....
I have heard...... around town.... that Manager Klimm has already hired an 'appraisal' for this property.... IS THIS TRUE? Can this really be?
ALREADY John Klimm has signed a LEASE agreement on this property and NO ONE, at least NO ONE that I KNOW, gave him permission! You see, John klimm does NOT need anyone's permission. Not the council's, and NOT the VOTER's and NOT the taxpayers! John Klimm does what HE wants when he wants and HOW he wants.......
But here is ONE thing that bothe Ann and John Klimm can bank on.....
IF someone did any APPRAISAL, I want to know WHO authorized it and WHO paid for it.......
And Ann, really.... DO YOU really think that this is any TIME to be wasting MILLIONS MORE on land, just because YOU want it? Ann has personally dragged Mr. Bornstein thru the MUD more than anyone else......
So Ann, you had better be prepared to EXPLAIN some things to the TAXPAYERS here.... Ann, people have been LOSING their homes here for a long time now.... and MANY people are struggling to pay the OVERASSESSED TAXES on homes all over town!
Ann, NOT EVERYONE in town is rich.... like the USELESS town manager! Ann, go explain to the struggling young parents who pay those sickening BUS FEES HOW AND WHY YOU and Mr. useless MANAGER HAVE to have the land at Freezer Point.....
Ann Canedey and John Klimm are both like a couple SPOILED little brats! Wah WAH, we have to have this WAH WAH!
Ann, get ready to explain ALL of this to EVERYONE because Ann, WHEN this comes up, I will be there right in your face! The WASTE has gone way too far!
And if there was an appraisal, I would like to know WHO authorized it..... Ann? Oh Ann.....

John Julius is a hero. The fact that he and Gary are bringing this absolutely POS SCUM down makes me feel this country is not all lost.
The fact that Mr. Bornstein has to endure a hostile takeover of HIS land by an oppressive corrupt out of control gov't is SICKENING. Give 'em hell Mr. Bornstein. Mr. Klimm and his POS cohorts will be gone soon. I encourage you to file PERSONAL CIVIL lawsuits against him, Canedey and JJ for what they are trying to do.
Homes (ocean front and inland) are OVER ASSESSED BY 20-35% EVERYWHERE IN TOWN. This needs to be corrected NOW.
Gary, Taryn and John are bringing about the change that will make this happen.
Janet - Can you hear the good folks knocking? You are a horrible person who imo is corrupt to the core.
Bye Bye Janet - after the next recall effort tomorrow it will blow your mind at how many signatures are collected.

THIS IS OUR GOVERNMENT NOT THE CLERKS OR THE COUNCIL PRESIDENTS.
WHERE IS THE ZBA? HAS JOAKIM TAKEN CARE OF HER LIQUOR STORE OWNING UNCLES OR COUSINS INTEREST? hOW MANY FAMILY MEMEBERS IS SHE GOING TO APPOINT TO VARIOUS COMMITTESS IN TOWN TO PERPETUATE HER ON GOING CORRUPT ACTIVITIES? SHE THINKS SHE IS PROTECTED BY THE REPRESENTATIVE. OH IS HE RELATED TO HER TOO!
MY PANTS ARE STILL ON BUT I GOT SCREWED ALONG WITH THE REST OF YOU TAX PAYERS
