Je ne sais quoi Janet Joakim?
Answer; Petty tyrant who treats her critics as chopped liver (cooked, chopped, and seasoned chicken livers) that is always served as a side dish, never as a main dish,
Two weeks ago during public comment at the last Barnstable Town Council hearing Cotuit resident, Dianne Fay, came to the dais to admonish an unknown town councilor, warning him or her, that if she didn’t stop “defaming” her and her sister immediately
Yesterday our very own, Taryn Thoman, caught up with Ms. Fay to see if she would be willing to share the name of the councilor who was harassing her.
In an email to me last night Taryn wrote;
Joakim knew both Diane and her sister having served on the same committee for a few years.
They have known each other for four years.
Sister is a retired school teacher, and Diane worked as employee advocate and did legal research and reasoning for the state for many years.
Janet Joakim sent Diane 3 e-mails.
The first was in April after Dianne spoke to the Cotuit meeting of the charter commission.
Fay said she was in favor of strong mayoral charter.
The Fays grew up in Dedham and took civics as part of their regular curriculum in school.
As teenagers they were required to attend town meetings once a week.
They grew up with mayoral system and liked it.
The Fay sisters are politically active in Cotuit, but are treated like low-enders because they live on the north side of Route 28.
Their house is GEORGEOUS!
Janet Joakim’s missive advised Diane to clear any of her opinions about the charter with her before making further talks, despite the fact Rick Barry is their councilor.
Diane found Joakim’s directive to be presumptuous and ridiculous.
Joakim’s second e-mail to Diane arrived soon after she spoke at the open meeting of voters.
You are welcome to watch the You Tube videos of the talks.
Fay’s comments explained that if the charter is silent as to whether Charter Commission is an elective office then it was wrong to characterize the position as such, because it wasn't there - period.
She suggested that the parties sit down and try to work out the matter rather than taking it to court.
She added that if Milne won his case against the town, he should have his legal fees paid by the town if his lawyer was smart enough to work such a clause into the lawsuit.
Janet Joakim’s second email to Diane postulated that she did not approve of her statements, and would not attend any public meeting at which the Fay sisters were present.
Third e-mail from Janet Joakim was mass-distributed regarding the posthumous dedication of brick at Kennedy museum.
Embedded in the mass e-mail was a statement that the Fay sisters were involved in Joakim's recall, characterizing the sisters as hatemonger’s and COGgers.
Diane has only been reading the Citizen for Open Government blog for a week, and then only after she received numerous calls informing her of the COG's post featuring her.
Prior to the open meeting of the voters, she had never heard the name Gary Lopez.
Fay said it is clear that Joakim has let many others in town know that she and her sister are behind the recall, which is causing her harm, injuring her family, is libelous, slanderous, and etc.
Diane called her Boston lawyer, who advised her to go before the council and ask "said councilor" to cease and desist prior to instituting further action.
Fay is not real keen on making much more of a stink about this if Janet complies with her request.
Janet Joakim added another victim to her hate list merely because she had an opposing view as to whether charter commission is a town elective office, and her support for a mayoral form of government.
Ironically a few months after the open meeting of the voters Barnstable Superior Court Judge Thomas Kane, issued a pro-Milne order based on the same argument raised by Ms. Fay.
Ms. Fay got the same abuse of power treatment from the President of the Town Council as myself, John Julius, Taryn Thoman, Aiden Thoman, Dennis Wilcox, Peter Doiron, Sylvia Doiron, James Walsh, Dick Andres, Eric Schwaab, Lou Gonzaga, Frank Paparo, Mary Clements, Greg Milne, John Norman, Sheila Geiler, Ron Jansson, Gail Nightingale, Jerry Gilmore, James Hatfield, Don Corey, and others,
Thank God for the recall provision in the town charter.
Precinct 6 voters will have the opportunity to rid the town of this petty Third World dictator on October 30th at a recall election to be held at the Marstons Mills East Horace Mann Public Charter School.
You have to seriously wonder about Janet Joakim's mental stability.
She attacks residents living in Cotuit, yet she hides behind the imaginary walls of her own Precinct claiming that she is being recalled by outsiders.
Janet just doesn't get it.
She being recalled by the entire Town because we're all sick and tired of her tyrannical ways.
Janet Joakim can't even balance her checkbook. How in the world does anyone expect her to balance a $5- $8 million dollar budget deficit?

Bugsy,
Good points. And yes, Janet does NOT GET IT! She never has! She is INCOMPETENT and UNQUALIFIED, let alone to even be a councilor, let alone the PREZ!
And yes, Janet IS being RECALLED by the TOWN, not anyone from any PRECINCT!
What Janet does not get is that she is a TOWN COUNCILOR! Her LYING to people (VOTERS) was lying to ALL the voters in this town. Her ABUSE OF POWER affected ALL the VOTERS in our town. We ALL lost arguably the BEST ZONING BOARD in the state because of her ABUSE OF POWER!
Therefore, she is ACCOUNTABLE TO ALL THE VOTERS! The NEW CHARTER should change any RECALL to allow for ANY VOTERS from ANY PRECINCT to recall ANY COUNCILOR for "conduct UNBECOMING" by ANY councilor, as it affects us ALL!
Janet needs to get this! But she never WILL!

The Joakim recall is the most important political event in recent town history. Getting rid of this mean-spirited, essentially incompetent hack could be a real call for change throughout a demoralized town facing major problems with a broken leadership. Anyone who opposes Joakim should reach out in 6 and urge any friends and associates there to vote her out. This latest affront to the Fay sisters is incredible in its arrogant stupidity. Doesn't Joakim have enough enemies without actively recruiting more? In the absence of any positive campaign to retain her seat, look for J. and her handlers to roll out every smear and nitpicking technical issue they can dig up to derail this recall drive. The recall proponents have to stand firm. Good luck.

Update: Maryann Barboza just called me to say that her sister's 7 & 9 year old children are getting rides to school for now from a variety of kind volunteers.
She is meeting with various officials including Patti Grenier regarding the matter and will know more on Friday.
She was effusively thankful to everyone who offered to buy the bus passes for the children, and said she will let us know more on Friday.
She also said it is her intention to obtain free bus rides for ALL CHILDREN of the town, and will not stop fighting until it happens. Go Mrs. Barboza!

Taryn:
Tell Maryann to stick with us. She will NOT be alone in her fight to RID this town completely OF the sickening bus fees! If John Klimm can be paid HIS GROSS WASTE of 130K or whatever the hell his GIFT salary is, and IF he can WASYE tens ot thousands taking 46 OTHER HACKS to CA on OUR money, and IF Klimm can INVENT hack departments like "growth Management" and IF the LEGAL DEP't can ALL make their SIX figure salaries PLUS have MOST of THEIR WORK done by OUTSIDE law firms, and IF the MORONS on the town council can kdep WASTING all the taxpayer $$$ that they do, and IF the IRRESPONSIBLE nitwits on the school committee can WASTE and spend like they have done, and IF the school Sup't can be PAID her GIFT of $ 180K a year, and IF the school Dep't can have THEIR OWN FULL TIME ATTY who likely has his own SIX figure SALARY GIFT....
should I keep going?
THEN SURE AS ##### these MORONS, ALL of them, CAN FIGURE OUT WHERE and HOW to cut out $ 225,000 and get RID OF THE SICKENING BUS FEES! And we CAN DEMAND they do!
So ask Maryann to PLEASE, yes, by all means, join us. a HALL of a lot of other people are too!

Maryann wants to work WITH the town to resolve the bus pass issue.
Fair enough. If those kids are not on the bus by Friday, we will simply buy them the tix.
Either way, those children will be getting the ride to school that they are entitled to, and that is all we want for every child in this town.

Whose cash are you using to buy the tix Taryn?

There is a challenger to Atsalis, a gentleman named Yingling. He is a novice with no backing and no chance of winning. Nonetheless, he represents an opportunity for voters to register their disgust with Atsalis, in line with the recent humiliation of parking attendant Bernardo. Why would anyone waste their vote on an incumbent who in ten years has accomplished nothing but the cheapening and polarization of local politics? This disease has spread to council affairs through some of his allies. Every vote for Yingling is a rebuke for the incumbent.

Yingling has a good chance of winning. A lot of his political signs have been being stolen, but signs don't vote:) Fortunately, it is still people who ultimately have a voice, and Mr.Yingling is the right kind of "people."
