Because the first new hotel of the New Millennium,
and the first new hotel in Barnstable during the last 45 years will not be built.
You may lose your home, your credit, and your job,
Farnham's bank won't skip a beat because of hefty deposits from town hall,
Rugo will continue to get state welfare from defending an exponentially increasing number of indigent petty criminals,
Janice Barton will continue to drive the Harwich lisence-less high school principal from Barnstable to work for her quid pro quo her non-teacher accredited teaching job,
Milne will go on living at home with mama, and
Janet Joakim will continue to sustain herself by writing bad checks.
Mr. Bornstein will retain the $20 million he intended to invest in Hilton Garden Hotel,
The antisemites on the town council, who convinced their peers to dump Bornstein's project by dragging out the meeting, and then voting not to extend the meeting for thirty minutes to enable out-of-town supporters to have their "say."
Bornstein supporters sat for nearly four hours to weigh in on the record, were also insulted.
Joakim, Rugo, and Chirigotis may have won the day,
but not the future.
The council's representable behavior made losers of others in town like;
Hyannis fireman, John Doherty, and his neighbors, who still face the conflagration of their homes because the clogged 8-inch, 99-year-old water pipe provides insufficient volume and pressure to extinguish a fire during periods of strong northeasterly winds. Let's see the fire-fighter extinguish fires without water.
(Bornstein was going to pay the $360,000 it costs to install a 12” pipe as a condition of build-out.)
How much will the Hyannis water rate increase to replace the water pipe?
Bornstein eschewed building a restaurant in his hotel, and the Cape Cod Commission estimated Hilton Garden customers would spend $140 a day within 3 miles of the hotel, means local merchants will lose $8.5 million annually with their absence.
Vannese Hangen and Cape Cod Commission traffic engineers estimated a daily increase of 77 vehicular trips with the hotel.
Barnstable residents will have to endure the unsightly blight of the stretch of road between Willow Street and the Airport Rotary; Bornstein agreed to give $50,000 to landscape the area.
The new Youth Center will have to dig into its empty pocket for $50,000 in landscaping costs that Mr. Bornstein was to donate.
Cape Cod tourism; the new hotel would have numerous hybrid plug-in automobile charging systems in place.
Bornstein agreed to install battery chargers for guests with Hybrid-plug in vehicles that are the future.
Without the ability to service these kinds of autos, owners will travel to other vacation destinations.
Complaints were registered that the hotel was to be five stories.
The truth is the height of the Hilton Garden Hotel was to be 55 feet compared to;
The Greenery Building on South Street that is 59 feet.
Barnstable Town Hall which is 77.1 feet.
The School Administration Building that is 51 feet.
The new apartment building near the Intermodal Transportation building which is 47.5 feet.
The Tilden Arts Center at Cape Cod Community College that is 52.2 feet.
And Barnstable High School which is also 52.2 feet.
Chairman of the Yarmouth Board of Selectmen, Suzanne McAuliffe characterized the new Hampton Inn on Route 28, as "the centerpiece of Yarmouth's vision for Route 28".
McAuliffe also said, "The new Hampton Inn was responsible for generating a great deal of new revenue to local businesses this summer."
Councilor Rugo’s quote in yesterday’s Cape Cod Times ranks second in the "Dumbest quotes of the New Millennium" behind President Obama’s
Rugo said,
"We don't need to be adding more cars around there (Spring Street and Route 28).”
The daily traffic count on Route 28 between the Airport Rotary and Yarmouth Road, nee Willow Street during the off-season is 20,000 – 22,000 vehicles per day that increases to 28,000 to 30,000 during the summer.
Rugo forgot to factor the facts the empty 48,000 square foot 65-year old building at 349 Iyannough Road, and the 6,200 square foot 65-year-old building next door are owned by Mr. Bornstein who will lease them as a matter of right.
I'll bet a dollar to a donut that the vehicle trips from the leased buildings will be ten times 77.
You'll read about this in tomorrow's newspaper, so keep it under your hat for today.
.
I am a resident of Yarmouth and every time I think our town fathers have their heads up their butts I log on to COG and then I don't feel so bad. You folks in Barnstable have my deepest sympathies. From the outside looking in it does appear to me that there is very suspicious goings on with your council.
Posted by: Yarmouthite | September 21, 2009 at 11:46 AM
You don't know how accurate your assumptions are Yarmouthite. You have town meeting where all town spending must be approved.
We have a council that can spend any amount on anything without asking voters.
Take the airport terminal expansion.
The airport has already spent $14 million without asking anyone, and the Airport Commission is appointed.
The airport plans to spend another $25 million the same way.
The council spent $25 million on the new Youth Center without going to the voters, and $10 million of the $25 was an add-on.
The council plans to spend $1 BILLION on a new sewer plant and sewer pipes without asking the voters who will be stuck with $100 - $150,000 betterment liens.
If you didn't know a betterment lien is the same thing as a second mortgage.
All the while voters love their councilors, especially Greg Milne, who actually did what the others are planning, and for what?
The waste water treatment plant and the airport are responsible for virtually all of the nutrient loading in Barnstable Harbor and Lewis Bay.

Yarmouthite I forgot to mention the schools.
You folks can barely deal with D/Y. Imagine dealing with D/Y, an independent D/Y intermediate Horace Mann School District, and an independent D/Y elementary school district.
Three separate school districts competing with each other, paying three different school superintendents, assistant school superintendents, three different business managers, three different purchasing agents, and so on.
Oh yeah I forgot five different fire districts, five different fire chiefs, five different district clerks, 40 different fire district politicians, etc. and four different water districts.

Tom Rugo is the BIGGEST ASS our town has ever seen! Tom, you also FORGOT that the COUNCIL is also responsible for getting RID of the old Chilli's building! Nice show Tom.... YOU are the BIGGEST IDIOT this town has ever seen!
We can THANK the following MORONS on the council for SCREWING US ALL:
1. Tom RUGO
2. Jim CROCKER
3. Ann CANEDEY
4. Hank FARNHAM
5. Greg MILNE
6. Jim MUNAFO
and JANET JOAKIM!
Say THANKS to all these IDIOTS for screwing everyone in this town!
Posted by: John Julius | September 21, 2009 at 12:27 PM
The Council has shown their true colors to all in the town. I dare say that last weeks little escapade with Bornstein has lost Joakim probalby 400 or more votes.
Posted by: Whoa Nelly | September 21, 2009 at 12:38 PM
Joakim has been very cagey the last few weeks.
She's taken a pass on her first vote to see how the vote would go, and every time the clerk went back to her at the end, she always voted with the majority which gives her the best of both worlds; She can say her vote didn't really mean anything because the issue was already decided, or she can say she fully supported the issue with her vote (that wasn't needed).
Last Thursday Joakim never looked up, and never said a word,l and that's what she'll tell voters if this thing backfires, and if her voters thank her for not supporting Bornstein, she'll say, "thank you like she's the one who killed it."

from Walter Brooks on today's Cape Cod Today;
Recession or not, just "stop Stu"
This comes at a time when the traffic to Cape Cod and Hyannis is significantly diminished due to the current recession and intense competition from newer, less expensive vacation venues for young families.
Yet there is a palpable "stop Stu" feeling sensed in the attitude some Barnstable politicians, and the loss of this new employer during the present recession and the property taxes this would have accrued to the town, has been criticized by many others in the town.
Insiders say there may even be anti-semitism at play given Mr. Bornstein's heritage.
Posted by: Walt from West Barnstable | September 21, 2009 at 12:51 PM
JOHN KLIMM is also RESPONSIBLE for killing this too. Klimm sits there and steers this ship... Klimm also cannot stand Stu and I can promise you that Klimm is responsible for much of this as well.
JOHN KLIMM IS THE # ONE PROBLEM IN THIS TOWN!
The problem is that the COUNCIL IS TOO STUPID to KNOW that THEY are SUPPOSED to be Klimm's BOSS and run the town! And Klimm just sit there and dangles his PUPPETS on his strings!
Hank Farnham is also too STUPID to know that HE is SUPPOSED to be Klimm's boss!
THey are ALL sickening!
Posted by: John Julius | September 21, 2009 at 12:54 PM
Listen carefully to the audio when the council is not officially in session. Joakim's comments can be heard there.
Posted by: Whoa Nelly | September 21, 2009 at 01:01 PM

I didn't know you were an insider, Gary.
Posted by: Pauline from Cotuit | September 21, 2009 at 01:14 PM
These people did the same thing to the Yarmouth Board of Selectmen three years ago when they came to town hall asking for a full airport commissioner.
The council listened to everyone and everything imaginable including having to listen to Janet Joakim pitch the Centerville Fourth of July parade before the council recognized them at 9:45 PM.
Posted by: Gary Lopez | September 21, 2009 at 01:18 PM
Folks, THESE SEVEN IDIOTS are MOST RESPONSIBLE for not only screwing Stuart Bornstein but also screwing EVERY TAXPAYER in this town!
So PLEASE start by calling the TOWN MANAGER,
JOHN KLIMM at 508 862-4610
TELL KLIMM TO RESIGN! He is the # ONE PROBLEM in this town!
And then call the seven IDIOTS I just listed:
1. ANN CANEDEY 508 362-4561

They are taxing people from here so fast it is SICKENING!
Posted by: John Julius | September 21, 2009 at 01:24 PM
Now that I POINTED OUT JANET JOAKIM, who wants to BET that she will come out and say that she FAVORED this?!
If anyone has watched Janet over the past several WEEKS she has NOT VOTED on almost ANYTHING until BEFORE she sat and WATCHED EVERY OTHER COUNCILOR to SEE WHO WAS VOTING AND WHICH WAY!
WHY BOTHERING HAVING ANYONE ON OUR TOWN COUNCIL IF THEY ALL JUST SIT THERE AND DON't VOTE UNTIL THEY SEE WHAT ANYONE ELSE IS DOING!
You can bet that Janet Joakim WOULD HAVE VERY LIKELY VOTED NO but she would NOT have voted until she SAW what everyone else was VOTING!
IT IS SICKENING like SHE is!
If the people in precinct vote even ten votes for her, they need to ADMIT THEMSELVES TO Bridewater State Hospital
Posted by: John Julius | September 21, 2009 at 01:30 PM
Richard Clark, Sue Rohrbach, and Sheila Gieler? I'd be insulted if the council let those fat bastards get in my way. If I were Mr. Bornstein I would not invest another dime in Barnstable until the whole council and John Klimm were gone.
Posted by: schwaabalongadingdong | September 21, 2009 at 02:29 PM
Don't worry. Stu Bornstein does not intend to invest another dime here. He is not only an honorable man but a very smart one as well.
His next challenge will be to fend off John Klimm and Ann Canedey who I PROMISE are trying now to STEAL his land at Freezer Point.
I heard that Ann has a rather large lawsuit against her right now and I HOPE SHE GETS HER ASS HANDED TO HER and I ALSO HOPE SHE LOSES EVERYTHING SHE HAS!
Ann, when you read this, RESIGN you IDIOT!
Posted by: John Julius | September 21, 2009 at 02:40 PM
Has any one asked this question about sewering the Streets and roads in Barnstable.
Most of the streets and roads in Barnstable are PRIVATE STREET and ROADS. The town of BARNSTABLE do not own most of the streets and roads in the town. If the town does not own the sreets and roads: THEN HOW CAN THEY FORCE HOMEOWNERS TO PAY A SEWER BETTERMENT FEE ON PRIVATE STREET and ROADS THAT THE TOWN DOES NOT OWN?
Skunket road in centerville is a private street/road the residents on that street/road, pay to maintain it.
Posted by: JIM WALSH | September 21, 2009 at 03:02 PM
Jim, good point, but in THIS town these guys make up their OWN LAWS! They could care less that they BREAK laws every week around here. A GOOD lawsuit is coming to these guys that is going to smack them right between their eyes! And like I said, I heard that Ann Canedey is facing one herself. COULDN'T HAPPEN O MORE OF AN ASSWIPE than HER!
Posted by: John Julius | September 21, 2009 at 03:28 PM
from the town's website...
Where is my sewer connection?
The Engineering Division should have the sewer connection installation as built plan on file. Septic system plans are on file in the Health Department.
8. When will a sewer be built on my street?
The answer to this question are site specific and in most instances is readily available by way of a phone call to the Engineering Division office (508 862-4088).

Scum is scum no matter where you live, and the town council is full of it.
Posted by: Rabble Rouser | September 21, 2009 at 04:07 PM
The council isn't that bad. There's at least seven semi-literates because I see them reading once in a while.
Posted by: Responsible parent | September 21, 2009 at 04:12 PM
You can't really blame Milne all that much because he has what's called " Little Man Complex "
Posted by: Peg from Hyannis | September 21, 2009 at 04:16 PM
Folks, the press conference is over now. I spoke to someone who was there. Turn on WQRC and it might be on at 5 p. m as to what Stu had to say.
One thing that he DID SAY WAS THAT ALREADY HE HAS RECEIVED NUMEROUS CALLS FROM OTHER TOWNS WHO WANT HIM TO BUILD A HILTON IN THEIR TOWNS!!!!
when you see your ASSHOLE TOWN COUNCILORS say THANK YOU to them for SCREWING US ALL!!!!
